I spotted this beautiful picture on the Instagram page of world renowned, Race car driver Lewis Hamilton. It’s a quote by Aki Hintsa, someone who was dear to him that had recently passed away. I was so moved by the words that I began to reflect on my own life.
Growing up, I used to feel mounds of pressure to be perfect! From family, to friends, to neighbors and in between, I always had watching eyes on me making sure I didn’t “step out of line.” As I grew older, I realized not every eye was watching for my success; many of them were looking for my demise. Feeling like I had something to prove made me more determined to seek perfection. Until one day I had an epiphany.
It came to me right after those same people who I was trying so hard to impress and be perfect for, showed their true colors. They ridiculed me, lied on me, talked about me, mistreated me, deceived me & stabbed me in the back! Needless to say, I was livid & devastated!
It was then, at my lowest point, when I realized I put too much value in people & needed to start putting myself first. There was nothing more I could do to try to change people’s perception of me and it was senseless of me to even bother proving myself to anybody. Unfortunately, it took me losing so much to learn this lesson.
So my constant daily prayer to God is to help me, mold me, guide me on the right path to becoming the best version of myself! I’m not perfect; nor will I ever reach perfection. All I can do everyday is focus on myself & learn how to be the best me I can be for me. God designed me – His opinion is the only one that matters!!!
