When Jesus went to pray on the Mount of Olives, it says in Luke 22:40 NLT, “There he told them, “Pray that you will not give in to temptation.”” As He wept for the pain and suffering that he would soon endure, his disciples disobeyed him and instead chose to sleep. As He came out of his prayer, he addressed them in Luke 22:46 NLT, “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation.””
How often do you choose to sleep on what God called you to do? How often do you allow the busyness of life to takeover your time throughout the day?
As human beings, sometimes we get so sidetracked with life’s burdens and problems, that we tend to forget about God. I, myself, have fallen victim to this battle of feeling like there’s just not enough time in the day and that I’m just too busy right now. I’ll say I’ll do it later, but when later comes, I’m exhausted and ready for bed. But I hear the Spirit ask me this question, “Is time promised to you?”
No, my friend, I must tell you it’s not. Time is promised to NO ONE! So we must make time — making it a priority to pray. Everything in life is about “choices.”
We choose to go to work. We choose to go to school. We choose to go shopping. We choose the type of television shows we want to watch. We choose the type of books we want to read. We choose to hang out. We choose the type of foods we want to eat. We choose to get our haircut, styled, fried, dyed and laid to the side. We choose to travel and go on lavish vacations. We choose to call our BFF’s and “spill the tea” about our lives (or another’s). We choose the type of men / women that we share our times (and bodies) with.
So if we can “choose” to do all of those things, why can’t we choose to make time for God?
If He chooses to love us, gave his son Jesus Christ to suffer and die for our sins, continues to bless us daily even when we don’t deserve it, then why is it so difficult for us to find time to pray?
Prayer doesn’t have to be a long, drawn out, holier-than-though, roar-and-roll-of-the-tongue, formal thing. Prayer is just a conversation– but with God.
Just as we converse with our friends and family, we can do the same with Our Lord. He doesn’t ask for much but to put Him first. We as humans tend to think it’s too much or too time consuming to stop and have a chat with God. But is it too much if you gain the whole world and lose your soul? What’s more important for your life?!?! Think about it.
Only YOU can choose salvation. It’s freely offered, doesn’t require a monetary down payment nor deposit; it just requires YOU to make a choice. All it takes is a conscience decision on your part to have a talk with God.
Tell Him how your day went. Thank Him for his many, countless blessings. Ask Him to bless another. Request that He continues to keep you, guide you and mold you into the best version of yourself. Keep it real with Him. Talk to Him just as you would anyone else. Be as open and as honest as you possibly can.
He already knows all; but just as our parents, friends, boyfriends/ husbands / wives want to hear from us about everything that’s going on with us, so does Jesus Christ. Tell him all about it: the good, the bad, the ugly. Don’t get so caught up in the words and sounding prim and proper. Just open your mouth and talk. Clear your mind and focus your energy on him. Take deep breaths in and out and just talk.
My prayer for today is simple: that you feel encouraged to pray. Tell Our Lord all about your cares, burdens, stress, worries, conflicts, difficulties, joys, pains, wins and losses. Let him guide and comfort you. Allow his grace and mercy to overflow through you. Thank Him for loving you in spite of. Ask Him for anything you need even your heart’s desires. In Jesus name, Amen!
See, simple and easy. Again, I cannot stress it enough to you friend, prayer doesn’t have to be long nor formal! You just have to open your mouth, relax your mind and speak the words that naturally come to mind (just as you would with anyone else). No matter where you are, what’s going on around you, be like Nike and “Just Do It!”
