What To Do When Anxiety Kicks In…

As of late, I’ve been in worrisome doubt. This journey that I’m on isn’t easy. Following Christ, obeying his teachings & calling over my life has been the toughest challenge I’ve had to face. Some days I’m encouraged. Other days, my anxiety kicks in causing me to have self-doubt & worry. I may not have control over everything in life; however, I do have control of my emotional, anxious state of mind.

I’m not proud to admit that for years I’ve privately dealt with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. However, just like all my writings, I speak in hopes that it may help someone know they’re not alone. Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which affects 6.8 million adults or 3.1 percent of the U.S. population, is characterized by persistent and excessive worry about a number of different things: money, health, family, work, or other issues.

My anxiety tries to get the best of me; however, it’s in those instances I have to remind myself of the good realities in my life. First, I make a list of my blessings: food, water, shelter, how far I’ve come & how I’m still alive today. Then, I say a prayer thanking God for those blessings. I may take a few moments to do some silent deep breathing exercises. Lastly, I turn to scripture for affirmation.

In the gospel according to Matthew 6:28-34, Jesus says this about anxiety, ““And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

I pray this be a blessing to you. In Jesus name, Amen.

With love,
