The Meaning of True Happiness…

“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭5:11-12‬ ‭NLT‬

They say, “money can’t buy you happiness.” Yet, many times we think money can. Having the nicest things that money can buy may make you happy for a second. However, what’s the point in having a temporary high?

I once had a lot of money. I shopped almost every day, stayed at the best hotels, ate all the best foods that money could buy, traveled first class, and never had to worry about a thing because I had enough money in the bank to do what I wanted, whenever I wanted. Yet with all that money, I still wasn’t happy.

I shopped because I needed a break from the loneliness. I traveled to escape from the headaches of heartache. I ate to fulfill my cravings for companionship. All in all, yes I may have lived “the good life” in modern eyes, but I still wasn’t happy.

I still had anxiety. I still worried about my life’s journey. I still wandered about trying to figure out where I belonged. I still hopelessly gazed upon the heavens waiting to understand what my gift and calling was on this planet. I still stressed about my life’s responsibilities. I still became depressed from lack of love.

I filled my life with all the things of this world that money could buy — except love and purpose. Money couldn’t buy me love and it darn sure couldn’t help me understand my purpose. It just loaned me an escape from dealing with my inner reality.

So the moral of this story: find true joy and happiness in the things that money can’t buy. Take stock within yourself, find and establish your belief system, keep God first, love yourself second, and complete activities that will leave you feeling genuinely happy. Give like you’ve never lost and love like you’ve never been hurt before. Take chances, make mistakes and always continue to learn and grow. Only then, will you find the true meaning of peace on Earth.

Sincerely,
