When Change Is A Good Thing…

“The Lord approves of those who are good, but he condemns those who plan wickedness… The plans of the godly are just; the advice of the wicked is treacherous. The words of the wicked are like a murderous ambush, but the words of the godly save lives. The wicked die and disappear, but the family of the godly stands firm. A sensible person wins admiration, but a warped mind is despised. Better to be an ordinary person with a servant than to be self-important but have no food.” (Proverbs‬ ‭12:2, 5-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

I just had a moment of correction happen in my life and I was glad to receive it. It came from a Holy place. I watched a sermon by Pastor John Gray from the Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. He spoke on the topic: Keys to Transformation Pt.2 and used the book of Matthew chapters 16 and 17 to help get his point across. The five (5) keys he broke down were:

  1. A moment of severing. (What or who in your life needs to be cut off / changed?)
  2. We can’t go higher until we’re seen clearer. (People need to see you through the eyes of the Holy Spirit!)
  3. You need to share your purpose. (There’s no more time for accidental friendships, things or conversations that do not lead you towards your purpose in life!)
  4. Fire in… Fruit Out!!! (Fix the insides of yourself so that the Holy Spirit can start shining on the outside!)
  5. Come to the knowledge of Jesus only! (Enhance His ministry, mission and message by displaying the character and heart of Jesus Christ.)

This was a good message to receive. For the last week or so, I’ve been busy being a busybody and unfortunately have neglected my writings. I’d write here and there but wasn’t giving it a sense of urgency or dedication towards getting it done. I kept saying I’d do it, but then life happens and I would get busy / sidetracked. It wasn’t until today’s message that I realized my problem. I was allowing distractions to take root into my life, therefore neglecting what God specifically instructed me to do. I needed to hear today’s word because I needed to receive the Holy Spirit’s correction. It doesn’t feel good when our parents scold us or when we receive correction from a superior or person of authority over us. However this correction was one well needed & fully accepted.

It’s not a bad thing when God allows His Spirit to correct us. It’s not a bad thing when we are shown what we did or are doing wrong. It becomes a bad thing when we foolishly despise correction and ignore the lesson that’s trying to be taught! I thank God for the reflection in the lesson. I needed to hear that I was getting beside myself. I needed to see that I was going about things the wrong way, thereby missing the mark. I needed to reflect on the distracting decisions I was making that were keeping me from going or transforming into the new stage that God is trying to take my life into.

Now comes the change! Now is the time for us all to take a look in the mirror, see what we’re doing wrong, allow God’s correction to take place in our lives so that we can move onto the next level.  I openly share my private lesson from God in hopes that you’ll learn to trust in His judgement and way for your life. God’s way is good! God’s way is the best way to do things. We fail when we try to do things on our own. We only succeed when we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us and mold us into the beings He’s set out for us to be.

So I encourage you to let Him use you. Go grab a mirror. Look in it and notice the reflection stating back at you. Take a hard look at yourself and write down the things in your life that you want or need to change.  This is not a test of your physical reflection but rather a test of your personal, emotional and spiritual reflection. Your physical appearance is made perfect in God’s eyes for we are all made in His image and likeness. However, through life’s experiences, we’ve grown accustomed to dragging along things or baggage that is slowing us down. God wants to see us flourish vibrantly and be genuinely heart healthy and happy people. We can’t thrive carrying dead weight or the baggage of a hurt life around. We must let go of the things weighing us down in order to grow and move onto the next stages of life.

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”” (Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you towards a better, brighter future. You need this change. You need this fulfillment. You need His guidance. Change is hard, trust me I know, but it’s worth it. It’s for you to be your best self and for God to get all of the glory. Allow the change(s) needed to take place in your life and watch how much happier and more fulfilled your life becomes. Come back and tell me all about the wonderful changes that Christ’s made in your life.

Sincerely with love,
