It’s easy to become desensitized to the things that go on in the world today. With so much chaos happening every single minute of the day, I see that many are becoming numb to the perils and crisis affecting the people of the world. It now seems almost normal for drama and bad things to happen and random when it doesn’t go as planned. It’s sad that good deeds and happy people seem few and far between in the chaos of this crazy world.
Unfortunately, we are now in a culture where there’s a divide between reality and fake news. People would much rather watch the news with tinted, rose colored glasses on, than to see the reality of other people’s tragedies. To them, what’s truly going on in the world is an exaggerated fabrication of a person’s real life drama. To many, the news has become stories perpetuated by television and film with each person acting / playing a specific role. We’ve become use to seeing many news reports of drama, tragedies, sexism, racism, economic discourse, famine, discrimination, political uproar, hate, violence and chaos play out in Hollywood that we aren’t even emotionally moved by them in real life.
I know many will say that this mind frame all started with Donald J. Trump, but I think it goes a bit further than that. Grant it, he’s the reason it’s now acceptable to deny reality but I think it all started with the long ago, adaptive mentality of “ignorance is bliss.”
“Such stupidity and ignorance! Their eyes are closed, and they cannot see. Their minds are shut, and they cannot think.”
(Isaiah 44:18 NLT)
People would much rather be ignorant to the problems of the world and in their own communities, than to acknowledge anything wrong. People would much rather deny something is happening, than to face the reality that it IS actually happening. I truly believe that television and film, alongside the illusion that ignorance is bliss, is the very essence of why we see things happening on a day to day basis and are not affected to the core by them. We’ve become blind and have blurred the lines between what’s fiction and what’s reality. This is truly sad!
“The godly care about the rights of the poor; the wicked don’t care at all.”
(Proverbs 29:7 NLT)
There are real people dealing with real life crisis in this world. There are too many people occupying this place to not care about anyone but ourselves. Although we were forewarned in the Bible that tragedies will occur, it doesn’t give any of us the right to play dumb, become numb and silence our ears and eyes to the cries of another.
“Unfriendly people care only about themselves; they lash out at common sense.”
(Proverbs 18:1 NLT)
“Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.”
(James 1:27 NLT)
I say all this to say, let’s not continue to turn a blind eye at other people’s problems for they may one day become our own. We are all in this world together. If you’re like me and are affected either emotionally or physically by what you see on TV, read or hear in the news, I’ll share with you the same thing I tell myself everyday: Don’t give up hope for a brighter day will soon come. Dry your eyes, let your anxiety go and know that God is watching and sees all.
““Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.””
(Psalms 46:10 NLT)
Just keep the faith! As my nana used to say, “He may not come when ya want Him, but He’ll be there right on time.” That alone should make you feel a sense of rest for the Lord promised He will not leave us nor forsake us. If God said all things will come to pass, then trust and believe that it will. No matter what happens in the world or in your personal life, always have faith. Even when you’re full of fear and doubt, you have to silence the noise of the enemy by opening the book (Bible) and speaking the word of God’s justice, love, peace, compassion and comfort over your life. Things will get better. In the meantime, let’s do what we can to help and pray for others in our communities and around the world.
“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.”
(Psalms 46:1 NLT)
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray today for the people. I pray for those struggling with depression, famine, persecution, loss, stress, anxiety, fear and doubt from living in this crazy world. May you hear their cries, bottle up every tear, take away every fear and give them the strength they need to overcome it all. Lord, we know the world is getting crazier and crazier. But it’s in those times when we are reminded who we can turn to: you GOD! So I ask that you encourage my peers and denounce every fear that the enemy will try to portray in their minds. May we always love and seek you through the good times and the bad. In your precious son Jesus’ name, I humbly pray Amen. Be mindful of others and go in peace!
Sincerely with love,
